Dwa Fanm's comprehensive programs have been developed in response to the urgent needs facing women and girls in the Haitian and broader black immigrant communities. We strive to improve the lives of women and girls by providing programs and services that have been designed to give them the tools they need to lead safe, healthy, and self-sufficient lives. To this end, Dwa Fanm maintains five core programs that address three broad issues: Violence Against Women; Poverty; and Human Rights.

ADDRESSING POVERTY AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Combating poverty is not only a matter of human rights but also of human security. At Dwa Fanm, we work to empower women through financial literacy and job training, and life skills education. In addition to improving women's income and job prospects, our programs positively affect their financial independence, social status, productivity and self esteem.

Fanm Vanyan ("Brave Women")

Through Fanm Vanyan ("Brave Women"), our economic empowerment program, we provide women with financial literacy training, job-readiness workshops, computer and other skills-training that gives them the essential tools they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency. It places women in jobs, assists with educational goals, and connects them to literacy and English classes.

"Going to school and advancing myself economically is my fundamental right as a human being, which cannot be taken away from me by society or any man. It is my right as a woman to be self-sufficient and independent. No man should be allowed to take that right away from me." -Dwa Fanm client
