featured at the Musee du Pantheon National Haitien from March 6th - 16th, 1998.

On March 10th, 2002, Dwa Fanm held our second annual Voices of Women benefit, centered around a book reading by Beverly Bell, author of the groundbreaking Walking on Fire: Haitian Women’s Stories of Survival and Resistance.
Dwa Fanm receives a grant from the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence, and begins a collaborative series of focus groups with the New York City Police Department, to explore and improve relations between the community and police service.

On October 01st, 2002, a call to open the month with a moment of silence; one minute any time during the day to remember Vayola Hercules, shot dead by her boyfriend in Dade County/Miami. Then, took another minute for another Haitian woman in Elmont Queens (Name Withheld), shot by her husband in their home.

On October 10th, 2002, Dwa Fanm holds "The More You Know: Immigration and Domestic Violence”. A presentation that covered basic immigration law, special situations and immigration relief for victims of domestic violence who are undocumented. We all learned facts from an attorney.

On October 14th, 2002 Dwa Fanm staff begins training with Girls Inc. of New York City, to develop a curriculum base for our upcoming Girls Empowerment program.

On October 19th, 2002 We held "Empowering Our Daughters A pizza party for girls ages 5 to 19, that featured a self-defense class, workshops on crime prevention, assertiveness, relationships and self-esteem. Also featured “Go Girl Go” by Girls for Gender Equity In Sports and the Women’s Sports Foundation. Prizes galore. Fathers, little brothers and older brothers of girls in attendance were also welcome.

On October 24th, 2002 held "Domestic Violence Within the Haitian Community", a workshop that explored domestic violence in Haitian immigrant families in New York City, common myths, police, public response and policy, models of intervention and how women in Haiti have been responding to domestic violence back home.

October 28th, 2002 "Rape Crisis and Intervention 101" A workshop about the myths and facts, prevention and intervention, statistics and the truth about rape against boys and against girls, the power and control factor, and rape within the context of domestic violence, facilitated by the Mt. Sinai Hospital SAVI rape crisis counseling program.
Dwa Fanm receives a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services to support our Haitians Against Violence at Home project.
